Injector flow test and cleaning service

A port injector flow test is a diagnostic procedure used to measure how much fuel each fuel injector delivers through the intake ports of an internal combustion engine over a specific period. It's commonly used in automotive maintenance and performance tuning to check for:

  • Clogged or dirty injectors

  • Uneven fuel delivery between cylinders

  • Leaking injectors

  • Malfunctioning injector solenoids or electronics

Purpose:

To ensure consistent and correct fuel flow from each injector, which is critical for engine performance, efficiency, and emissions control.

How It Works:

  1. Test Equipment Setup:

    • The injectors are either tested on the vehicle (in-situ) using specialized equipment or removed and tested on a flow bench.

    • In either case, a measured amount of test fluid or fuel is passed through each injector while it is pulsed open using a controller.

  1. Flow Measurement:

    • The fuel or fluid that comes out of each injector is collected in graduated cylinders or containers.

    • The amount of fluid is compared across all injectors to ensure they are delivering evenly and to spec.

  1. Leak & Spray Pattern Test (optional):

    • The injectors may also be checked for leaks when closed.

    • The spray pattern is observed to ensure proper atomization.

Results Interpretation:

  • Good injectors should all deliver similar volumes and have uniform spray patterns.

  • Bad injectors may show:

    • Low flow (clogged or dirty)

    • High flow (leaking or stuck open)

    • Irregular spray patterns

Common Uses:

  • Diagnosing misfires or rough idle

  • Engine tuning or modifications

  • Pre- or post-cleaning injector verification

  • Preventive maintenance for high-performance engines

If you're doing this for a specific engine or vehicle—some setups have unique testing requirements.

    About Ramsey Race Prep LLC

I've been dreaming of owning a repair shop since the day I began working on cars 19 years ago. In 2019 I made the decision to set my plan into action. Ramsey Race Prep LLC is what I've created with the experiences I've had over the years. From my years as a dealership master certified technician of many different manufactures to the years I've spent drifting in grassroots, pro/am, and even a brief time in Formula Drift Pro 2 I've been honing my skills. My primary focus is taking care of customers and their vehicles whether it be a simple brake job, timing belt replacement or a complex engine swap.
